Zellige is handmade from raw materials using a centuries-old process. Color varies tile to tile because of the ancient glazing technique. Firing often causes crazing — a network of fine hairline cracks across the glaze surface — which is a normal characteristic of handmade tile, not a defect. Tiles are hand-chiseled, so variation in width, length, and thickness should be expected. These qualities are inherent to authentic zellige and are part of what defines the material. We recommend a 15–20% overage on all zellige orders to account for cuts, breakage, and natural variation.
