Among the ten sculptures in the Kokeshi art collection, Kingyō stands out as the most introverted. Unlike Hasu, which ascends in a clear, vertical gesture, Kingyō curves inward as if protecting something indescribable. Her silhouette, formed by two superimposed spheres, conveys a sense of containment and protection, highlighting the concept of gravity. The regularity of her carved hair, which has an almost architectural quality, balances the soft rounded volumes beneath, creating a tension between control and vulnerability. Inspired by the calendula, a flower often linked to grief and remembrance, Kingyō invites us to look more closely.
